No focus or closure today!  I will be grading any sketchbook entries from December 2nd through December 18th or ones that you are missing from last time.  

Make sure to wrap your projects with wet newspaper and to wrap your bag as close as possible around your projects

{Ceramics 1} Focus/Closure for Wednesday, 12/18

(Wheel--Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday)
Block 3/4: Pauline, Maricely, Aja, Dom, & Ameer
Block 9/10: David, Quadri, Daniel, Raman, & Mason

Focus: (Write down.)
Bat - A flat disc made out of plaster, wood, or plastic which is affixed to the wheel head with clay or pins. Bats are used to throw pieces on that would be difficult to lift off the wheel head.

Objectives:  
*complete slab box
*work on final project
*recycle clay
*Glaze after January 14th.
 
Requirements for final project--
1.  7 inches tall 
2. incorporate coil and/or slab to pinch pot.
3.  should show 2 out of this list:
     1. relief
     2. etching
     3. carving
     4. texture

Closure:  (Write down.)
  Throwing: A process of producing pottery by use of a potter’s wheel.

Due to the snow day and delayed opening, I am extending the deadline for the house.  Please try to have house complete by end of this week (Friday).  This will give you about a month to paint your house. 

FYI--January 14th is the last day to work with wet clay.

Should you add texture before or after you assemble your box?  


Remember that your base should be a 1/2 of an inch bigger than your sides.  Example: Sides are 5" x 5" then your base would be 5.5" x 5.5" or Sides are 6" x 8" then your base would be 6.5" x 8.5".


Objectives:

*Coil pot is finished.  *Tripod is finished. *Slab Box is in progress.


Closure:  What can you do if the sides of your slab box are uneven after you assemble them together?

We will start the wheel tomorrow because of the shortened day.  Make sure that you use your time wisely today.  Remember that you only have 4 1/2 more weeks to work with wet clay.  January 14th is the last day you work with wet clay.

{Ceramics 1} Focus/Closure for Friday, 12/6

Wheel on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday (You must do all three days in a row, no excuses--unless not at school):  
Block 3/4: Cameron, Christian, Karley, & Erin
Block 9/10: Ray, Tiff, John, & Kiomy

Focus:   (Write definition down.)
Centering: The process of applying pressure to a lump of clay on  a spinning wheel head to position it for even rotation.

Please write this down, too.  January 14th is the last day we will work with wet clay.  After that your work will be fired and you will focus on glazing all of your work.  We will also be working on studio maintenance.

Objectives:  *Coil pot should be finished, if it is not, please complete it.  *Tripod Pot, if it is not, please complete it. *Begin/continue Slab Box. *Learn how to use slab roller.

Closure:  (Write down.)

Bring old clothes for Monday, hair ties, and change of shoes (if needed).

Focus: (write down)Wheel work will begin Monday... for wheel work you should bring in baggy sweats to throw over your clothes, a dish towel, and a hair tie/bandana  if you have long hair. I will let you know at least a day in advance when you are to go on the wheel.


Objectives:  *Coil pot should be finished, if it is not, please complete it.  *Tripod Pot, if it is not, please complete it. *Begin/continue Slab Box. *Learn how to use slab roller. 

Closure: Check ceramic locker for any tools that belong to the school and return them.
