No focus or closure today.  I will be grading your notebooks today.  You need work from the week of November 11th, November 18th, and this week November 25th.

Today, would be a good day to recycle clay because it would have 4 days to dry up and become usable.

Continue to roll out the slabs for your houses.  Keep in mind that this week is shortened due to Thanksgiving break.  
 
Focus on adding detail as you wait for your slabs to dry up a bit.

Houses should be constructed by 
December 11th, (Wednesday).

Focus:  How many coats of glaze should you use with the Speedball brand?

Answer: 4 coats of glaze (going in different directions)

Objectives:  *Coil pot should be finished, if it is not, please complete it.  *Begin/finish Tripod Pot  (due tomorrow). *Begin/continue Slab Box. *Learn how to use slab roller.

Closure:  No closure.  Use this time to get caught up in your notebooks.  I will grade notebooks today and tomorrow.

When joining your pieces to your slab box, first make sure your slabs are stiff and that they are even. Stand up your pieces and make sure they are flush with the slab it will be attached to. When joining slabs score and slip and then support each joint with a coil. Be sure to smooth the coil out.





Objectives:  *Coil pot should be finished, if it is not, please complete it.  *Begin/finish Tripod Pot  (due tomorrow). *Begin/continue Slab Box. *Learn how to use slab roller.

Closure:  Do you decorate your slabs for your box before or after you create the box?  Answer:  BEFORE you create the box!

Today and Tomorrow, I will be grading sketchbooks!  If you are behind, work on them during the closure time period.

Focus:  

Slab roller:  a piece of equipment that will roll out slabs of clay for you.  Please make sure that the two silver knobs are set to a 1/4 of an inch for your slab boxes (if you need help with this, please let me know).

Objectives:

*Finish Coil Pot (due Friday).
*Begin/finish Tripod Pot  (due next Tuesday).
*Begin/continue Slab Box.
*Learn how to use slab roller.


Closure:

When recycling clay always use the WOODEN rib only to scrape the excess clay off table and hands.

Requirements for Texture Box:
-Multiple Stiff (Hard) Slab Construction Boxes-
Minimum of 5 inches tall and wide, depth may vary.
Minimum of 10 textures
Must be visually interesting and creative!
Focus on craftsmanship!

 
Objectives:
*Finish Coil Pot with all requirements (check your notebook)
*Begin/Finish Tripod Pot with all requirements (check your notebook)
*Begin Slab Box 


Closure:  (Write down)

Texture: The way a surface feels or looks to you.  ie.  A kitten feels and looks soft and fluffy. However, a painting of a kitten would only look fluffy.

Focus:  
Steps for making Tripod Pot:

1.  Roll out a slab of clay.
2.  Cut out a rectangle.
3.  Add texture now, unless you want to add texture later when the pot is leatherhard.
4.  Cut edges at a 45 degree angle.
5.  Score and slip edges of rectangle.
6.  Connect edges.
7.  Score and slip the top of the tube.
8.  Make a triangle with the top of the clay tube and slowing start pinching in.
9.  Pinch in until it looks like three legs.
10. Keep the pot upside down as the three legs dry up over night.

 Objectives:

*GLAZE.

*Continue/Finish Coil Pot

*Begin/Continue Tripod Pot 

*Learn how to use the slab roller

Closure:  

Reminder: Coil Pot requirements--6 inches, smooth either inside or outside walls (you may smooth out both), negative space, relief or etching

  2. Organic pinch pot with foot
  3. Themed pinch pot with lid
  4. Clay Rattle--with a theme, appendage and relief.
*Glaze any bisqueware that you have.
*Continue working/finish Coil Pot.
*Start/Continue Tripod Pot.

When we get back from break, I will introduce the house project.

End of Quarter 1 is Wednesday, November 13th.  Your Raku and Sgraffito projects are due then.

Please, turn in anything you'd like me to grade.

Today you should work on completing any pinch pots or coil pot requirements.  They are all due on November 13th--last day of Quarter 1.  That is next Wednesday.

 
Make sure that you're projects sitting in your locker have enough moisture.  You may need to put in a wet paper towel in your bag to create humidity.
